Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitarist as well as a music producer. She was the first and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Shield she's had nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian of Indian descent to perform live and to serve as a presenter at the awards ceremony. Anoushka is the emerging star of Indian sitar. She is a student as well as daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar. Born in London, she spent the first few years of her life traveling between London and New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years of age. After moving to Encinitas, the state of California, in 1999 she earned an honorary high school certificate. Anouskha continues to have a bright career in recording and performing even though she's only a teenager. Since a while, she performs regularly alongside her father. In 1998, she released her first self-titled album Anourag. She released Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year following. Apart from performing in all of the largest venues as well, she has a long stage career. Anoushka isn't just a performer. In 2002, she wrote a book entitled Bapi The Love of My Live this is an illustrated biography that is a honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. She played as a Bharat natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man.
